GRUNTS EPISODE 11

Grunts

<Previous Episode Next Episode>

This was the first appearance of what have become known as the Blue Grunts! They are a lot of fun as they act as a foil for some of the strips and are an identifiable enemy for our boys in stupid. Their first appearance was deliberately set for episode eleven to sweep readers into what I called the "second wave" of strips after the initial opening salvo of ten.

They belong to a mercenary force which calls itself "The Renegade Militia" - and they will do anything for anyone, as long as the price is right.

BestLockLand forces have contracted elements of the Renegade Militia to fight their war for them, however they tend to be unreliable as (most of the time) all you have to do is wave some cash in front of them and they'll go away.

Originally my plan was to use clone brand "Best Lock" minifigs as the enemy, but after I did this in my "Incursion" diorama, I got criticised for using non-LEGO elements, even though that was the whole point!!

People have asked me about the colour of my troops. Well, quite obviously I went with green for the Tabletown Army - although some people say it's too lurid a green. But think about it...why is it a "lurid" green? It's actually just regular LEGO green, which makes perfect sense when you consider that all LEGO trees and things are the same green - thus it's actually perfect camouflage!

And why blue for the enemy? Well, OK, I just needed a different colour - it's as simple as that! It had to be a colour that would show up in the strips, and a significantly different one to our heroes.

This strip just goes to show that soldiers are the same whoever they work for. Boys and their toys...
