Episode 3 of Grunts instantly became my favourite after I'd finished it, despite it being overlit and featuring huge swathes of kitchen worktop!

I was trying to go for a more subtle style of humour here, keen to get as many examples of what Grunts could be out there into the public domain in case people dismissed it as just the same thing over and over again. And...I'll admit...I wanted a shot featuring lots of my troops to show off!

This episode was the first to feature the new layout - the one that I would broadly stick to (with minor modifications) for the rest of the series. I now had a blank template in this format which I could just slot images into as and when - it's a great system that has served me well and gives consistency to the series, although at times the 4-panel layout is tough on the plot!

Episodes 1 and 2 were later modified to fit this pattern.
