Forum is closed to new registrations.

I have taken the decision (about a week ago actually) to close the forum to new member registrations.

The reason? Well, I am not averse to new registrations, far from it, but I simply cannot cope with the sheer number of fake registrations going through the site right now.

A while ago, after some particularly vile spam attacks involving extremely explicit pornographic images being posted on the site by a new member, Bluemoose and I turned off automatic registrations and submitted the process to verification – this would (hopefully) allow us to filter out the scum and only allow new members in.

This meant though that every time I got a new registration request, an e-mail would be sent to my account. The scope of the problem soon became clear, for every genuine new member, we were getting about 200 (I am not kidding) fake registrations.

Eventually I told my mail program on my PC to ignore these messages so they would not show up, however I don’t have this option on my iPhone and every time I check my mail I have to wade through about thirty messages a day from spammer scum wanting to post their irrelevance on this website.

The only way I can stop this impacting on my own affairs is to completely disable new registrations until some kind of automated process can be found to stop these people registering to post their rubbish on the forums.

If anyone knows a way this can be done without taking up huge amounts of my time, I will discuss it, until that time, anyone wishing to register should send me an e-mail with their requested logon details and I will set them up.

Frankly, it’s getting me down. We live in a world where it seems a perfectly innocent forum discussing LEGO amongst all ages cannot operate without severe constraints on how it runs and I find that very sad.
